He attended Savannah Christian Preparatory School before pursuing higher education at Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College in Tifton, GA, where he earned a degree in Turf Management. This specialized education provided him with in-depth knowledge of grass health, soil science, irrigation, and landscape maintenance, laying the groundwork for his future career.
Hobie gained valuable industry experience through internships with Kiawah Island in South Carolina and Turf Services Unlimited, where he worked on high-end golf course maintenance and turf care. These opportunities exposed him to advanced turf management techniques and reinforced his passion for maintaining pristine landscapes.
After graduating, Hobie moved to Orlando, Florida, where he began working in golf course turf maintenance with Ginn Development, a well-respected company in the golf and real estate industry. His role involved maintaining championship-level golf courses, focusing on soil health, pest management, and sustainable turf practices.
After several years in Florida, Hobie returned home to Savannah and took on the role of Golf Course Assistant Superintendent at Hampton Island Preserve. This position expanded his expertise in large-scale landscape maintenance, irrigation systems, and high-end property care.
Following his time in golf course management, Hobie transitioned into the commercial landscaping sector, working for a leading landscape company. During this time, he recognized the growing demand for high-quality lawn care and landscape services tailored to Savannah’s unique climate and soil conditions.
Determined to bring top-tier lawn care expertise to residential and commercial properties, Hobie started his own company in 2009. With just a used mower and a vision for success, he founded Turf Scouts, a company that would soon become Savannah’s trusted name in professional lawn care. His dedication to excellence and deep knowledge of turf management, fertilization, weed control, and irrigation helped Turf Scouts grow into a leading lawn care provider in the region.
In 2012, Hobie earned the prestigious Georgia Certified Landscape Professional (GCLP) certification, a distinction awarded to only 300 individuals in the entire state since its inception in 1993.
